I have a hand-sized brass turtle hinged box similar to the silver one you show! It's from my parents, from the 70s, I think. Garage sales and vintage fairs are an awesome way to find tchotchkes for the home.
this made me wonder what the story behind these turtle silver boxes is:
"Turtle silver box" can refer to a 1894 Japanese Imperial marriage commemoration box, an early 19th-century English snuff box, a 20th-century sweetener box, or an antique trade effigy, each with different origins and uses. In a broader context, the turtle symbolizes longevity and good luck in various cultures, which can be incorporated into the design of boxes meant for personal storage or gifts."
love the symbolism!
i'm going to a flea market this weekend and can't wait to look through loads of trinkets :)

Oh, how cool! I never thought about it-it’s always been just the turtle box!
Have fun! Love antique fairs.💕
